UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple personalities within her must escape from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, each with their own fears and drives. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity standing could be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
