The Three Lions to Launch the European Championship 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The English squad will initiate their Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated entry for a competition taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.
City’s stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions game since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to host the national team for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are planned to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, should they win the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Launch and Rally
The tournament was launched at an ceremony in a London landmark on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were heckled as they arrived the location by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Signs were raised with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
