The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “harming young minds” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their unions for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
The party, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments suggested the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
