The network's Leading New Show of This Year Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
