At least 16 people perished and over 40 were hurt when attackers opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.
In the latest update, officials have stated the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 injured people were admitted to the hospital.
The deceased are yet to be publicly named, but authorities state their ages range from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.
Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She recounted the moments before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she stated.
The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Officially, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the statement read.

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he described the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He said he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
