The Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting With the Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."
The veteran has now hit 23 playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I want up in that situation other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
