PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
