New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD issued surveillance images Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in March.
