Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
