Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
