Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
