Heavy storms over the past week have worsened the already dire situation of the hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in the territory, as stated by relief groups.
"Awful" Conditions Poses Serious Risks
A spokesman described the recent storm as "awful", with downpours so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.
"Last night was truly horrendous for the residents. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so strong," said the representative.
Officials express significant worry that young ones residing in temporary structures in wet clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and various ailments.
Casualties and Extensive Destruction
Medical officials have confirmed that one baby has passed away from the cold and no fewer than 11 other people have been killed in building collapses caused by the storms.
