Former Doctor Charged with Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Legal authorities have announced that a former doctor stands accused of committing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Grave Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Prosecutors said the 45 charges include:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
