Democratic officials expressed outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and stated they should be arrested and punished "through capital punishment" following their release of a controversial video.

The Content That Provoked the Debate

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, features six Democratic elected officials who previously acted in defense or security positions.

"As we did, you all swore an pledge to safeguard and uphold this founding document," the representatives stated in the brief video. "At present, the threats to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our laws are unambiguous, you can refuse illegal orders, you can reject unlawful commands, you have to decline unlawful commands. The Former President's Incensed Reaction

In a third publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials Respond

Following Trump's remarks on that day, House Democratic leader released a combined announcement censuring the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no position in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all served our nation with great national pride and distinction. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's offensive and harmful calls for execution against members of Congress, and appeal to House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to make certain the safety of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these extreme online messages and recant his dangerous discourse before he leads to violence," the announcement continued.

Officials' Defiant Response

The representatives who participated in the video also published a statement.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and national security professionals who value this nation and swore an vow to defend and support the constitution of the United States," they said. The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's statements and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is calling for the death of public representatives."

He continued: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. All senators, every Representative, all citizens – regardless of party – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The GOP leader supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This represents very harmful, you have prominent officials of the legislature advising soldiers to disobey orders, I think that's historic in the nation's past."
