Both Deceased Students Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Press On With Manhunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in Saturday’s violent attack in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter carried on following the release by local law enforcement of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted condolences online, remarking: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

His name was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.
